Bananas - Health Benefits You Don't Know Part 2

From the first part that I wrote about the benefits of bananas, It was proven that regular consumption of bananas, can give us enough energy. This is the second part of that article. Bananas can prevent us from different sickness and health conditions that are included in the following:

1. Insect bites - Before you grab an insect bite cream, try to apply a banana peel to the affected area. Based on research, banana peel can actually prevent from being swollen and irritation.

2. Overweight - People who hardly move, especially in their type of work, like sitting for 8 hours. This may cause overweight combined with uncontrolled food cravings. People should control their blood sugar by eating carbohydrate foods every two hours too maintain the proper level. And this can happen by taking bananas daily.

3. Temperature control - Many different culture states that banana is a "cooling fruit" that reduces both physical and emotional temperature of those who are pregnant.

4. Ulcer - Bananas is used as a dietary food against intestinal disorder from ts smooth texture. This is the only yellow fruit that wont let anyone suffer from cases of over-chronicler. It neutralizes over-acidity and it lessen the irritation because of proper ling inside our tummy.

5. Morning sickness - Eating bananas in between meals can maintain right sugar levels that prevents morning sickness, especially to pregnant women.

6. Maintains good condition of nerves - Bananas are high source of B vitamins that soothes our nervous system.

Eating bananas are not just for delicious treat. It has different benefits that makes bananas a winner!

The Best Chocolate Banana Muffins

Muffins are a staple among breakfast and snack items. There are so many flavors to choose from including peanut butter fudge, banana nut, cranberry bran, blueberry and even basic corn muffins. The limits are truly endless. Chocolate Banana takes the cake with its sweet blends of tropical banana flavors and cocoa tempting the taste buds. There are many versions of the muffins - mini, regular, jumbo and even frosted. The only problem with them is they are high in fat, calories, cholesterol, sodium and trans fats. Unfortunately, the truth is that a homemade health muffin usually doesn't taste completely fantastic when the tastier ingredients are removed.

Instead, search for a store-bought alternative that offers a completely healthy option and tastes good too. Look for muffins around 100 calories that have no hydrogenated oils and no preservatives. Don't bother going to a regular grocery store for these items. Most likely, you'll have to visit a store like Whole Foods or a local health shop to find healthy chocolate banana muffins. Check with weight loss companies if you can't find them in the stores.

Have you ever thought, hmmm, how are prices so low at Outlet stores like Banana Republic Outlet Store? How can these prices be so low compared to the main store Banana Republic? Well, to most this may not be such a big secret. There are actually two main whys those outlets stores can offer merchandise 20% to 50% off. One way is to offer discontinued merchandise, sell garments that are distressed coming from the merchants and the other way is to offer returned merchandise that can't be resold in the main store.

Discontinued merchandise - All fashion items go through fashion season. Fall, summer, spring or winter there are cloths for all seasons. But as it turns out not every single item is sold during every season. Left over merchandise cannot be kept on the rack. So retailers pretty much rather get the rock bottom price for the garment without taking a total loss. So, they will send these garments to outlet shops that will mark the price down to pretty much the bottom price that is close to cost. This keeps the manufacturer from not taking a lost and allows for the normal customer to find a great deal.

Distressed merchandise - Do you know that the people that sow these clothing items together do actually make mistakes from time to time. I suspect that most people would if they make 50 to 100 pants per day. These items or mistakes are called distressed clothing. And outlet shops are full with this sort of stuff. This could be pants, shirts, coats anything that is manufactured. But don't get pissed about this. These items are opportunities to save significant money. And some of the items are not that distressed. Some may just have a stitch that is going the wrong way. Or maybe the pants may say that their supposed to be 42 inches long but are irregular at 41 ½ inches long. Not such a biggy. But big names like Banana Republic will not put this distressed items on their main floor. That is a plus for you and me.

Last but not least are returned items - Now, these items don't usually end up on the main flow. Occasionally they do. But some do make it to the outlet store. These items are sold to wholesaler, as bulk items are they are featured at other outlet stores. These items are brand new items that may just need another chance. This is just the opportunity that is needed for you and me.

Remember, don't be afraid of these items, the opportunity is great to save a lot of money.

Anti-Cancer Wonder Fruit - Bananas

I like to watch tennis matches on TV, especially the grand slam series. Running under the hot sun for hours at high speeds requires a lot of energy and stamina. So during the breaks, players would replenish their bodies with fluids and sometimes bananas.
 
Why bananas and not other fruits? There are many reasons. Bananas are easy to peel and eat and provide a quick boost of energy. Depending on the type and size of the banana, they typically contain 110 calories, 3 natural sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose), about 6 vitamins, and 11 minerals. It is a good source of potassium and fiber and has no fat and cholesterol.

I love to eat bananas and there are so many ways to prepare and consume it. Bananas can be made into cake, bread, pie, sauce, ketchup, pudding, chips, yogurt, and beer, among many others. You can freeze it, deep-fry it, steam it, squeeze it into juice, split it and serve with ice-cream, slice and put it in a sandwich, or cut it up and mix it in a salad bowl. For me, eating it on its own at 90% ripeness is a super treat.

Bananas have a long list of health benefits, some of which are:

1.   Ease Constipation: its high fiber content helps digestive tract and bowel movement

2.   Diarrhea: the potassium replaces the lost electrolytes

3.   Anemia: the iron helps to replenish the red blood cells

4.   Healthy bones: bananas contain a complex sugar compound that nourishes good bacteria in the colon. This good bacteria produce enzymes which help digestion and in the process increase the absorption of calcium

5.   Prevent High blood pressure: its high potassium and low sodium ratio helps prevent high blood pressure and stroke

6.   Help reduce Ulcers: bananas stimulate the cells on the internal stomach lining to produce a thick mucus protecting it against acid; it contain enzyme inhibitors that get rid of bacteria in the stomach that cause ulcers

7.   Reduce Depression: bananas contain an amino acid that can be converted to serotonin and help reduce depression

8.  Relief Stress: when a person is highly stressed, his potassium level will deplete quickly. Eating bananas, which is high in potassium, will restore the level and provide a good balance in the body

9.   Reduce Heartburn: bananas help to prevent the build-up of acids in the stomach and provide relief for people suffering from heartburn

10. Reduce Morning Sickness: bananas help keep the blood-sugar level up and reduce morning sickness

11. Help to quit Smoking: bananas contain vitamins B6, B12, potassium and magnesium that can help a person trying to quit smoking to recover from nicotine withdrawal

Banana came out top. Eating bananas produced the anti-cancer substance TNF, increased the white blood cells count, and improved the immunity of the body.

I have to appear sincere, for part of this coming year,

And assure everyone that everything is booming,

Never mind strict quotas, Ive imported multitudes of voters,

And told them which party let them stay,

Though Ive rigged the postal vote, and defamed everyone of note,

You never know what might happen on the day.

So to be on the safe side, I swallow all my pride,

And allow my people to hear my hallowed voice,

And roll out the charade, put on the facade,

And even make believe they have a choice,

Next time around the crown, will be trampled underground,

House of Lords and Lord Chancellor history,

With the other Chancellor gone, I alone will soldier on,

Yes, then there will only ever be me,

Ill hold elections for you, as all dictators do,

And fill positions with those that grease my palm,

As for civil unrest, there is always house arrest,

Or secret imprisonment for those that mean me harm.

So from national nursery, via educational history,

You can in time join the New Labour Youth,

Be taught gay is fun, and the state is number one,

And any other opinion is untruth.

Ask the media if unsure, or philosophically impure,

Brainwashing British Citizens is their forte,

They will surely put you right, or visit you at night,

Either way they will stop you being naughty.

Meekly follow all the rules, laid down in our schools,

Where state is all and learning is suppressed,

And you can safely be ignored, not seen as being flawed,

Just be another number like the rest.

Better far to be, a part of mediocrity,

Within your state and the seeds they have sown,

Than to disappear, or to live in constant fear,

For having a mind and will all of your own.

How is it that we, lost the option to be free,

How did we give away our right to choice,

How did we believe, whilst being deceived,

When did we decide to lose our voice.

How did we select the politically correct,

Why are we victims of unpunished crime,

Were we such fools as not to see the tools,

Or did we think they would go away in time.

The tap is darkly dripping, droplets that are gripping,

Our throats today our minds in time to come,

We must turn the tide, and reaffirm our pride,

We must prove we are not deaf and dumb.

It is no good wailing, chained up to your railing,

That you want the vote back like before,

For no one hears your plea, they are deaf to you and me,

No on cares about us any more.

This is about manipulation, of us and of our nation,

This is about illusions triumph over actual reason,

This is about lies, and the power to mesermerise,

This is about a slowly creeping treason,

This is about the eviscery, of the neutral BBC,

This is about what poison will soon take its place,

This is about five year plans, and Citizens of Euroland,

This is about civil service, with a very red face,

This is about soaps and plays, which in very subtle ways,

Try to put into our minds new sets of plausible truths,

This is about newspaper demise, in the guise of purveying lies,

Whilst the state preaches Pravda through schools to our youth,

This is about vision and sound, and any means that is allowed,

Trying to persuade you against your own common sense,

This is about duplicity, making seem true what cannot be,

And hoping you will at very least sit on the fence.

This is about unelected expertise, being paid huge taxpayer fees,

Alaister Campbells school of used car salesmen integrity,

This about usage of such curs, and their lies, and their slurs,

To pull the wool over the eyes of you and me.

Maybe feeble opposition is fuelling this submission,

But this is not about parties or their competence,

This is simply a war, not about who to vote for,
But who to definitely vote against.

Chocolate Chip Brownie Recipe: Banana Brownie with Chocolate Chips

Bananas and chocolate are a really great mix in this fantastic brownie recipe.

1 cup butter

6 very ripe bananas

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

3 eggs

3 cups flour

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

1 cup chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter. Add bananas, sugars, vanilla, and eggs; mix well. Add flour, soda, and salt; mix well. Mix in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.

Spread into a greased 13x9-inch baking pan.

Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips on top.

Bake for 5 minutes. Use a knife to swirl the melted chips on top. Return to the oven and bake another 25-30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.

Tip: These brownies freeze well.

1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature plus more for pan

1 2/3 cup sifted all purpose flour plus more for pan

8 oz. unsweetened chocolate, chopped

8 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 1/4 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate, cut into chunks

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Butter a 9x13-inch glass baking dish and line with parchment paper. Butter and flour pan, then set aside.

Place unsweetened chocolate and butter in a pot of a double boiler and melt over barely simmering water, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, fitted with the whisk attachment, combine eggs, vanilla and sugar. Beat on high for 10 minutes then reduce to low speed and add chocolate, blending to combine.

Add salt to flour gradually and combine. Fold in the chocolate chunks. Pour into the baking dish and bake about 25-30 minutes, until they start pulling away from the sides.

Cool in dish on a wire rack then cut into 24 squares.

1/2 cup butter, softened

1/4 cup Peanut Butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light brown sugar

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 2/3 cup Peanut Butter Chips

1/2 cup Hershey's Syrup

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan. In a large bowl, beat butter and peanut butter. Add sugars, beat well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Blend in vanilla. Stir together dry ingredients, mix into peanut butter mixture, blending well. Stir in peanut butter chips.

Spread 1/2 of batter into prepared pan; spoon syrup over top. Carefully spread remaining batter, swirling with spatula for a marbled effect.

Bake 35-45 minutes. Cook completely in pan on rack. Cut into squares.

Four Delicious Oatmeal Recipes

Oatmeal Banana Waffle

Ingredients
2 cups oatmeal
2 cups water
1/2 banana
2 tablespoons powdered milk
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

Turn waffle iron on high

Put ingredients in the blender and blend on high until the contents are smooth

Let the mixture sit for a few minutes to thicken

Spray the waffle iron with a non-toxic non-stick spray

Pour the mix on to the waffle iron

Cook for about 10 minutes

Repeat until you are out of batter

North Staffordshire Oatcakes

North Staffordshire oatcakes are a local delicacy in the North Staffordshire area of England, and so may be known to non-locals as a North Staffordshire oatcake or Potteries oatcake. These use flour and yeast, whereas other oatcakes do not. When pre-cooked, they are a form of fast food, and catering outlets in the area usually offer oatcakes with fillings such as cheese, bacon, sausage and egg. They can be re-heated by frying in butter, or by grilling. In addition, pikelets are often served alongside oatcakes in a similar fashion.

Ingredients:

8oz fine oatmeal
8oz wholewheat or plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2oz fresh yeast
1 1/2 pints warm milk and water, mixed half and half
1 teaspoon sugar

Directions:
Add the salt to the flour and oatmeal.

Dissolve the yeast with a little warm liquid and add the sugar. Allow the mixture to become frothy.
Mix the dry ingredients with the yeast liquid to make a batter.

Cover the batter with a clean cloth and leave it in a warm place for an hour.

Bake the oatcake on a well-greased griddle. Put enough batter onto the griddle to produce an oatcake about 8-9 inches in diameter. The surface will be covered in holes as it cooks.

Turn the oatcake after 2 - 3 minutes when the upper side appears dry and the underneath is golden brown, and cook for another 2 - 3 minutes.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Ingredients
3/4 c butter, apple sauce, equal parts butter and vegetable oil, or shortening
1 1/4 c brown sugar -- firmly-packed
1 egg
1/3 c water or milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 c oats, rolled (raw) - quick/old fashioned
1 c flour - all-purpose
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 c raisins
3/4 c walnuts - chopped

Directions:

Heat oven to 350°F.

Lightly grease cookie sheet with oil.

Combine butter, apple sauce, butter/vegetable oil mix, or shortening, brown sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla; beat with mixer on high speed to blend well.

Combine oats, flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; add to shortening mixture and combine until just blended.
Stir in raisins and nuts.

Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10-13 min., or until lightly browned.

Raisin Oatmeal Muffins

Ingredients:

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup oatmeal (rolled breakfast oats), traditional slow (large) type
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup oil
1/2 to 1 cup raisins
butter (real butter) for the pan

Directions:

Pre-heat an oven to 375°F.

Butter a muffin pan or cupcake pan.

Place the dry ingredients in one bowl, and the wet ingredients in a different bowl.

Mix both bowls apart, then merge them and mix again.

Spoon batter into the pan.

Cook for 20 minutes, or until brown with crispy edges.

Immediately flip the muffins upside-down using a butter knife. Leave them in the hot pan to prevent condensation from ruining the surface.

IBS Treatment - What Have Bananas And Apples Got To Do With IBS?

When someone talks about bananas, one thing comes to mind - energy food. The reason for this is because we often see the tri-athletes gorging on this before and during their race events.

Well, it is a known fact that it contains three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose - combined with fiber. The sugars give us the instant and sustainable energy. Research has shown that just two bananas can sustain one for a vigorous 90-minute workout. But for an IBS sufferer, it is the insoluble fiber that we are interested in. The abundance of insoluble fibers helps in relieving constipation without the need for laxatives. So keep a banana or two in your daily diet. One banana has 16% of the fiber, 15% of the vitamin C, and 11% of the potassium we need every day for good health. Bananas are unique because it helps in both IBS constipation and diarrhea. A few (no more than 2) large bananas a day provide the fiber to promote bowel movement. Eating more bananas a day can help stop diarrhea. Bananas have other benefits as well. For anemic patients, bananas are high in iron, which helps in the production of hemoglobin - the foundation of blood. This is especially important to women when they have their menses.
For high blood pressure and stroke sufferers, bananas are high in potassium but low in salt. Research, has shown that potassium reduces blood pressure. In one research, keeping bananas as a regular diet can reduce the risk of death by stroke by as much as 40%.
For heart burn patients, bananas have antacid properties. Gulping down a couple of bananas provide relief in heart burn patients.
For ulcer sufferers, bananas coat the lining of the intestines, thus providing relief for over-active ulcers. A banana's antacid properties will reduce acidity in the stomach as well.
For mosquito bites and warts. Forget your creams, just use the banana skin and rub some on the mosquito bite. It not only provides irritation relief, but reduces inflammation as well. Keep the inside of the banana skin on the wart by using plaster and see the wart go away. Tips: Do not take bananas late at night. When you take bananas, also take lots of water after that if you want to prevent constipation. Apples are also unique because they are both beneficial in the treatment of constipation and diarrhea. Uncooked apples are good for constipation. On the other hand, baked apples are good for diarrhea as the cooking process softens the cellulose and provides bulk to stools. For the best IBS treatment, apples should be peeled. The sugars in apples are harder for the body to digest. And what the body can't break down, it pushes out. So apples are a natural laxative. Personally, I find combining bananas and apples into a drink is even more effective as a constipation relief, so here is a recipe for one IBS constipation relief drink. Banana, Apple Lassi (Yogurt drink) Combine two fruits with natural laxatives and digestion booster properties, and you get one of the best IBS constipation treatments. Yoghurt builds 'good' bacteria in the gut. (Caution: if you are lactose intolerant, do not take yoghurt made from milk - then use soya yoghurt)

Recipe

1. Use natural unflavored yoghurt (about 3 tablespoons). if you are milk intolerant, skip this and just use water or soya yoghurt.

2. 2 ripe, peeled bananas. Use 1 banana if you want to reduce the banana fragrance in the drink.

3. Peal an apple and cut into pieces and put in a juicer. Use the apple juice.

4. Add about 1 cup of cold water in a blender. Pour in the yoghurt. Pour in the apple juice and add in the bananas

5. Give the blender a spin so that they are mixed up.

6. Drink immediately. To keep, refrigerate. Drink this on a daily basis either early in the morning. Not only will this drink give you a boost the entire day but it keeps the gut well and bowel movement consistent.

How to Make an Old Fashion Banana Cream Pie

This old fashion Banana Cream Pie will take you back to "the good ole days". It is a simple recipe but it is delicious. If you do not have a favorite pie crust recipe, try this Self-Rising Flour Pie Crust for your pie shell. Busy, in a hurry, or just don't like to make pie crust, there are some great ready-made crust in your grocer's freezer.

OLD FASHION BANANA CREAM PIE

2 cups milk
3 egg yolks, save whites for another use
1 tbsp butter
1/3 cup flour
1/8 tsp salt
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 bananas, sliced
baked pastry shell

Scald milk. In the top of a double boiler pan, mix together the flour, salt, and sugar. Slowly add the scalded milk to the flour mixture, stirring constantly until smooth. Cook slowly in the double boiler until smooth and thick, about 15 minutes. Beat egg yolks slightly and add a small amount of the hot mixture to them and beat constantly till smooth. Quickly add the egg mixture to the double boiler and stir constantly. Cook about 3 minutes more. Add the butter and vanilla; stir in to blend well. Remove top of double boiler from the stove. While mixture cools slightly, slice the bananas into the pie shell. Cover bananas with the filling mixture. Serve with dollops of whipped cream or use the egg whites to make a meringue and make this a banana meringue pie. Either way, it is delicious.

SELF-RISING FLOUR PIE CRUST

2 cups self-rising flour
2/3 cup solid shortening
6 to 8 tbsp water

Cut flour and shortening together until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Add the water, starting with 6 tablespoons, and mix until a stiff dough is formed. Gradually add more of the water, if needed. Divide the dough half. Roll half of the dough to a circle about 1/8-inch thick. Transfer to a pie plate. Add the filling. Roll remaining dough like the first half and use over the top of the filling. Using your fingers, turn the edges of the dough under to seal and press into a scalloped designed edge. Cut small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. Bake according to the pie recipe.

Note: To make 1 pie crust for the above pie, divide ingredients in half. Continue instructions above. Fit the crust into a 9-inch pie plate. With a fork, make some holes in the bottom and sides of dough to allow air to escape. Without this, the crust will puff up. Bake at 350 degrees until lightly brown. Check often and if puffing occurs, stick fork into the puffing area. Allow to cool before filling.

Recipe For Breakfast, Lunchboxes, and After-School Treats, Struesel Topped Banana Nut Bread

Going back to school usually brings the need for new breakfast ideas, lunchbox treats, and healthy after-school snacks. If you have any of these needs, here is a great recipe for you. Struesel Topped Banana Nut Bread has healthy oats, bananas, and nuts among its ingredients. With a glass of milk it can serve as a quick breakfast as well as a healthy after-school snack. A slice in the lunchbox is also a good idea. Adults love it too with a good cup of coffee, hot tea, etc. When the weather turns cold, the children may want to enjoy this bread with hot chocolate rather than milk.

STRUESEL-TOPPED BANANA NUT BREAD

1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar*
7 tbsp uncooked regular oats
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup cold butter or margarine, cut into pieces
2 small ripe bananas, mashed (1 cup)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup sugar*
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup chopped toasted pecans
1 tsp vanilla extract

Combine the light brown sugar, oats, and flour. Cut in the 1/3 cup cold butter with a pastry blender until crumbly; chill this struesel.

Beat banana and eggs, sugar, butter in a large mixing bowl at medium speed with an electric mixer for 1 minute or only until smooth.

Combine the 1 1/2 cups flour and baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add to the banana mixture, beating just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Stir in the vanilla and pecans.

Spoon batter into 3 greased mini loaf pans. Sprinkle each loaf evenly with the struesel. Bake at 340 degrees for 35 minutes. Cool in pans on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Carefully remove bread from the pans and cool completely on wire rack.

*Diabetics can enjoy this bread by substituting 1/4 cup Splenda Brown Sugar Blend for the brown sugar and 1/4 to 1/3 cup of Splenda sugar blend for the sugar.

The term "nana" is a short form of "banana" and may be related to the term "bananas", meaning crazy. It has also been suggested that it is rhyming slang. "Banana split" = "twit". A "Gorblimey' was a common term in the early 1900s for an unwired, floppy, field-service cap worn in defiance of army Dress Regulations. It comes from a mild oath meaning "God blind me!"
