A Guide To Dune Buggys

Dune buggys are recreational vehicles which sports wide tires, and meant to be used on a sandy precinct such as desert or beach. The fundamental design concept of dune buggys is a modified engine powering an open chassis. Americans are renowned for their insatiable appetite for the outdoors and the "Do it Yourself" concept. This makes the massive popularity growth of dune buggys hardly a surprise. The vehicle came to symbolize the carefree spirit of the beach crowd in the early 60s. Dune buggys were a common sight sloshing through the sand dunes of Southern California and Florida also the desert precinct such as Mexico's Baja California and parts of California's Mojave Desert. Crafted out of fiber glass, these early custom designed cars featured a rounded and squat appearance devoid of any flat lines. More than often these were the VW bug which was stripped down their engines tuned up for more power and fitted with larger tires with thick treads for traversing the sands. Most of the dune buggys had their rear tires bigger than the front ones.

There was a reason for selecting the VW Bug for modification; the rear mounted engine meant that once the body has been stripped down there is an enormous improvement in traction. Dune buggys are prone to flipping over; hence there is a safety roll bar in place which prevents the occupants from being crushed in the event of a rollover. These vehicles can be highly versatile when it comes to utility; they serve as surfboard haulers on the beach, off road competitor, sleek street roadsters from impressing the town-folks and of course back-road bushwhackers during those expedition trips. Their weird and kooky design was redemption for souls looking for some spirited adventure, coupled with dazzling colors and sparkling chrome, these left the Corvettes and Pontiacs in the dust.

Dune Buggys also let people be their own automobile designer, create and design their own car and do things their way. The earlier dune buggys came in an array of dazzling colors and paint jobs, everything from purple, turquoise, lime green and Rickie Tickie Sticke flower decals, all of which complimented the happy-go-lucky nature of this vehicle. However, many of the newer ones sport an aggressive and meaner look, an indication of the widespread popularity of dune buggy races. Famed dune buggies in pop culture include the Wonderbug from The Krofft Supershow, Big Jim's Dune Devil, Banana Split's Banana Buggy and Barbie's Sun 'n Fun Buggy. The pop culture image of dune buggys took a drastic turn when it was publicized as the favorite method of transportation for the Manson family during their notorious journey through the jagged terrains of California's Death Valley.

Banana Diet Tips and Associated Warnings

Banana diet tips can be effective but they need to be executed properly. Many of us fail to do it in the right way and then it can turn really awry. So just glue yourself to this article and find out the right technique to go about it.

Banana Diet Tips and CAVEATS

1. Warning: the diet is not about eating bananas only. Not by along shot. A diet made of only bananas can be quite deficient in many vital amines, minerals and necessary fat.

Moreover, it can be a torment to the taste buds. Of course, you do not want me to instruct you upon this but then those aggressive dieters must be cautioned. You never know with them. They go to weird levels to satiate their new found will power for dieting.

2. Tips - you can undertake the diet in two ways and also a cumulative way.
Just gorge in two bananas (don't gorge it though), 3 times a day; perhaps as between the meal nothings.

Also, look to eat one banana each pre and post meal. The combination idea is to go for one banana all the three times you sit for a meal and 1 banana thrice as snack.

Look to use the 1st or the 3rd way. This is because it's always best using it as a two-pronged tactic on belly. As a snack, they can be great; quite an appetite suppressor. As food during meal, they can facilitate digestion; they have such quality enzymes. If your digestive tracts are sound and the food is assimilated properly then you will stand a better chance for a long term weight loss.

The ambit of the article was small. Here is hoping that it solved few banana diet mysteries for you.

If you enjoyed reading this information, you can find much more advice on fat loss and weight related issues over at my website.

Calories in a Banana

It is important for everybody to know the amount of calories in a banana. Bananas are the immense foundation of dietary importance. They have been looked upon as nature's most beautiful gift.

o The carbohydrate constitution of calories in a banana depends on the ripening of the fruit. The sugar level and starch level depends on how ripe it is as well. As the banana ripen, the level of starch falls and the level of sugar rises.

o It can be said that bananas become easy to digest if it ripens and the color becomes more yellow. In comparison, the 'protein calories' are only of one percent of the aggregate calorie content. However, one half percent are 'fat calories'.

o The amount of calories in a banana varies from medium quantity to low quantity. The source of the amount of calories in a banana is mostly carbohydrates.

o Bananas that are peeled and weigh 1 pound will typically have 260 calories.

o If you count the amount of calories in a banana which is peeled and small in size, you can find the calories to be around 80.

o A banana of standard size can be full of roughly speaking 115 calories.

o A small plantain banana, also every so often called as "red bananas", have approximately 115 calories. A pound of red plantain bananas consist of about 400 calories.

o Bananas supply a great source of energy when eaten around half an hour prior to any exercise. This is mainly because bananas get digested in a slow manner and a stable continual energy source is achieved and supplied to the body.

o Some people suggest avoiding banana when watching your weight. This is because of the heavy calorie composition. For a dieter, the amount of calories in a banana he can have is an 80-calorie banana in his diet chart.

Facts About Calcium - Learn Some of the Important Facts About Calcium and Their Impact on Health

Calcium has many roles to play in maintaining proper health and well-being other than acting as a building block of bones and teeth. Many degenerative diseases have been found to be linked with calcium deficiency and conditions like fatigue, depression, muscle cramps, frequent headaches and PMS in women are also somewhat connected with lack of calcium-rich food in our everyday diet.

Let's find out some interesting facts about calcium.

Fact #1: Calcium helps in proper digestion of food. We all know that calcium carbonate tablets are taken to reduce acidity in stomach. This is true. Calcium is actively involved in reducing acidity and hence promotes proper digestion and absorption of nutrients found in food material. As a result of this enhanced metabolic activity, calcium has been found to assist in weight loss. It helps in the prevention of obesity, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Fact #2: Calcium prevents depression in women. Women in their old age are not only at high risk of developing osteoporosis but also depression, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Recently it has been discovered that calcium deficiency might be a cause of pre-menstrual syndrome in women and prolonged state of depression, especially after giving birth. Pregnant and lactating women are strongly advised to increase their calcium intake for proper development of the baby and to prevent baby blues later on.

Fact #3: Calcium is important for blood clotting. Calcium and vitamin K are vital to be present in the blood in order to form blood clots. The blood of people who are deficient of calcium takes longer to clot and hence there is a danger of too much blood loss. Calcium supplements and calcium-rich food should be consumed on a regular basis to overcome this deficiency and live a normal, healthy life.

There are many calcium-rich supplements now available on the market. The ones made with coral calcium are increasingly gaining popularity because of the ability of coral calcium (calcium carbonate) to prevent many diseases and improve overall health. Coral calcium obtained from waters around Okinawa Island in Japan has been found to be the most refined form of this salt and should be used by manufacturers in making high-quality supplement products.

In addition to these tablets, don't forget to exercise on a regular basis and eat a healthy, balanced diet including at least 2 cups of milk daily. Ask your doctor for daily recommended allowances of calcium and accordingly adjust your dosage of calcium tablets.

If you are seeking a traditional-style meal then look no further than the many stalls selling gumbo and jambalaya dishes, sometimes with chicken or shrimps caught locally. This part of the food is also noted for its rice and bean dishes and you are sure to find many delicious examples of such dishes at the jazz festival.

New Orleans is famous for its po-boy sandwiches, long crusty sticks of bread filled to bursting with fried shrimp, crawfish or other ingredients. If that doesn't sound to your liking, you may want to sample the bread filled with delicious suckling pig.

Other classics on the jazz festival menu include crawfish bisque, shrimp cocktail, spicy potatoes, seafood casserole, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes and red beans and rice.

Kids are also catered for at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, with the children's area home to its very own food market where youngsters can sample traditional cuisine which is a little less spicy.

After trying all sorts of delicious Cajun and Creole cooking, you may be fit to burst - but make sure you save some room to try some of the amazing desserts which can also be bought at the festival.

Why not sample a slice of traditional US pecan pie? Or treat yourself to a yummy piece of banana bread pudding or lemon pound cake?

Fans of arts and crafts may also want to head on over to the Congo Square and Louisiana Marketplace areas at the jazz event. In Congo Square, you can get your hands on an array of handmade items, all with an African American tinge.

Head here to pick up handmade jewellery and sculptures, interesting pieces of art and hand carved musical instruments.

If you want to take home a traditional piece of New Orleans craft, then why not buy a handmade pine needle basket from the Louisiana Marketplace? Stalls in this area also sell more handmade jewellery as well as clothing.

Whatever you decide to get up to at the New Orleans and Jazz Heritage Festival, it is sure to give you a day out to remember on a holiday to the US.

Vegetarian Recipes - Almond Pancakes

After growing up eating my grandma's buttermilk pancakes, I am the last person you would think could be convinced that anything else even counts as pancakes. But this is not the case. Here is a genuinely competitive recipe for classic breakfast food with a super healthy twist. Try real maple syrup, agave nectar, natural strawberry jam or honey for a topping.

For a recipe yield of about 4 servings of Almond Pancakes (2 fairly large pancakes each), follow these instructions.

Ingredients for Making Almond Pancakes

3 Cups Westsoy Unsweetened Vanilla Soymilk

1/2 Cup Soaked and Re-hydrated Almonds

1-2 Teaspoons Canola Oil

4 Whole Medjool Dates

3 Teaspoons Agave Nectar

1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour

1/3 Cup Spelt Flour

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Whole Plum (Can Substitute an Apple or a Banana)

1 Teaspoon of Vanilla

1 Tablespoon Arrowhead Mills Organic Flax Seeds

Optional:

Blueberries, Mixed Berries or Banana

Earth Balance Natural Non-Hydrogenated Buttery Spread

First mix all of the powders (Flours and Baking Powder) in a large-sized mixing bowl, sift together and set aside.

Next, put the almonds, dates, oil, agave nectar, plum, vanilla, flax seeds and about 1/2 cup of soy milk into a food processor and blend until smooth. Adding less soy milk at this stage will help out the processor to chop the ingredients more smoothly.

Mix the wet and dry ingredients together in the large bowl, turning until the pancake batter reaches a consistent, uniform texture and viscosity. Add in approximately 1 to 1 1/2 cups of soy milk, stirring until evenly integrated. Add enough soy milk until the batter reaches your desired consistency.

Heat a pan over medium heat, and coat the bottom of the pan lightly with Canola oil. Add a handful or two of blueberries, bananas or mixed berries (to taste) to the batter before scooping out into the pan for cooking. For an added twist, add frozen blueberries to the mix, which will heat up and cook properly, but maintain their integrity in the pancake.

Cook in the pan until golden brown, or until pancakes are to your liking; flip once after the top side bubbles, and cook evenly on the second side. Serve with the recommended ingredients to complete the healthy meal. Use a pad of buttery spread for even more flavor.

Banana Costs Tsonga the Australian Open Title

It's amazing how a harmless looking and cheap fruit that so many people tell you is good for you can be so expensive!

Well in the case of Tsonga at this years Australian Open, this yellow peril could well have cost him $$$millions!

The reality is that the Australian Open dream for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is at an end but did we really expect him to win?

We were all (including me) excited and in awe of his destruction of Nadal in the semi final where we all uttered words we never thought we would about the Spaniard - Overpowered, Slow, One-dimensional!! Maybe the over the top (but deserved) press coverage following the match had pushed Tsonga over the finish line and into the winners circle in our minds!

What many people forgot was that the final was another day, against another opponent and on a stage that Tsonga had never been to - a Grand Slam Final! So what happened, why did he not win?

Well the bottom line is that Djokovic is a great player and does present a different set of problems than Nadal.

He serves better and bigger and his groundstrokes are harder and flatter and ultimately more attacking. Even those differences were enough to turn Tsonga into the defender in the points more often than in the Nadal match, where apart from the fact he was obviously in "THE ZONE" he was more often than not the aggressor.

Having said that is there anything he could have done - well maybe yes!!

Having taken the first set with a piece of inspiration, he found himself 2 sets to 1 down and looking tired in the fourth (don't forget he had never played a 5 set match before).

Then suddenly, Djokovic starts to grab his legs and looks in agony - he even failed to move to several shots and others (especially his forehand) failed to get over the net because he was unable to push off into the shot. Was this now Tsongas title?

Well Djokovic well within his rights, called for the trainer and took a medical time out and Tsonga sat down waiting.

Big Mistake!

Although many view the calling of trainers, gamesmanship and in some cases cheating, they are allowed and if used right are tactically as important as deciding to go cross court or down the line.

For Djokovic, he had time to get his legs massaged as well as the opportunity to eat a bar (minimal digestion time) and take on some hydration.

Especially because he was looking weary himself, Tsonga should have done exactly the same thing and USED THE RULES!

BIGGER MISTAKE!

Apart from not taking the timeout, what did I see him do - have a drink and a BANANA!

I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see players eating bananas!

BANANAS ARE NOT INSTANT SOURCES OF ENERGY!

They take hours to digest and just divert blood to the digestive system instead of to the muscles and brain where you need them most!

So the injury time out obviously helped Djokovic and without question hindered Tsonga who on the face of it did nothing different in the last few games whereas Djokovic certainly kicked on a bit which was enough to see him sprint over the finish line to his first Grand Slam!

How a Professional tennis player in a Grand Slam Final was allowed to eat a banana at such a crucial stage of the match is staggering and whilst it may not have meant Tsonga would have won the match (even if he won the 4th set) it certainly would not have helped matters.

Another case of how the small details can add up to major factors!

How will you look at the bananas the next time you are in the Supermarket?

Easy Desserts Kids Love

I love dessert and so do my kids. Often times I purchase one rather than make my own. Since I have been trying to keep my grocery bill down, I have been making my own more often but it does take time. Bill and Rosemary Haley writing in their book Haley's Hints have some wonderful ideas about easy desserts for kids. Here are some of Haley's ideas and some of my own:

Stuffed fruit - For a great dessert kids will love, first core an apple or pear. Replace the core with some fresh marshmallows.

Banana Pops - For a quick dessert that's also good for your kids, put bananas in the freezer and make Popsicles (peel bananas first and insert popsicle stick lengthwise). If you want to go gourmet, dip the banana in melted chocolate, place on wax paper and then freeze).

Easter fondue - Once Easter is over and your child is left with all that chocolate, why not use it all up at once? For a tasty chocolate fondue, melt the chocolate eggs and bunnies in a fondue pot (or you do this in the microwave) and add some milk. Cut up chunks of different fruits and let your kids dip the fruit in the melted chocolate. You can also use small graham snacks, marshmallows and pretzel sticks.

Easiest pie - Buy or make a graham cracker crust Graham cracker crusts come in chocolate now too. Fill the crust with any flavor of instant pudding, chill and top with whipped topping. Alternately you can fold the whipped topping into the pudding and fill the crust with the mixture. Decorate with sprinkles or any kind of candy (gummy worms are very popular with kids) or chips (chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter)

Brownie sundae - Buy or make brownies. Place brownie in bottom of a small dish, top with a scoop of ice cream. Pour hot fudge or chocolate sauce over ice cream and top with whipped topping and sprinkles.

Homemade ice cream sandwiches - Buy or make chocolate chip cookies. Depending on size of cookie scoop about a 1/4 cup (small cookies) to 1/2 cup of ice cream on bottom of the first cookie and top with
another cookie. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze until firm.

Fun Baked Birthday Treats

The traditional birthday cake isn't the only yummy option you have when it comes to baked goods for your child's birthday party. We have come up with some other ideas that are more than just a substitute for a birthday cake. They are creative, delicious and just plain different.

Decorate A Cookie

· Sugar Cookie Dough
· Cookie Cutters
· Wax Paper
· Confectioner's Sugar
· Water
· Food Coloring
· Assorted candies
· Colored Sugar (different colors)
· Sprinkles

Prepare a batch of your favorite cookie dough, or purchase some refrigerated sugar dough. Roll it out and place it on the wax paper. Let the kids cut out cookies using the cookie cutter, then bake them according to the baking instructions for your dough.

Allow the cookies do cool. Prepare "Glue" by mixing the confectioner's sugar with water to form a sticky paste. You can add food coloring to turn it into different colors. The kids can paint the cookies with this glue, then add candies sprinkles and colored sugar.

Allow them to dry and either let the kids eat them at the party, or place them in plastic bags so they can take them home after the party.

Magic Wands

· Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough
· Star Cookie Cutter
· Popsicle Stick
· Confectioners' Sugar
· Hot Water
· Food Coloring

Roll out the sugar cookie dough and cut using a star-shaped cookie cutter; bake according to package instructions.

As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, and are still soft to the touch, carefully push a Popsicle stick between any two points of the star. This makes the handle for your wand.

Frost the cookies with glossy icing. To make glossy icing, simply sift confectioners' sugar into a bowl. Slowly add hot water, while mixing, until it becomes a smooth paste. Add a few drops of food coloring to make extra colorful treats. These wand cookies are somewhat fragile, but they're delicious and a lot of fun to eat!

Dessert Pizza

· Sugar cookie dough, store bought
· 8-ounce package cream cheese, at room temperature
· 1 cup sugar
· 1 teaspoon vanilla
· Fruit slices like banana, strawberries, apples and blueberries
· Greased cookie sheet or pizza pan

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
Slice up the dough like you're making cookies.

Press the dough into a pizza pan. You should end up with thin, sweet pizza dough. Bake it for about 8 minutes and cool it on a rack.

Combine the sugar, vanilla and softened cream cheese. Spread it all over you pizza crust.

Top with the fruit slices.

There you have it ... Three fun baked treats that not only make a great addition to any birthday party, whether you are serving cake or not. They are also a fun activity for the kids during the party. Give one of these a try at the next child birthday party you throw.

Does Morning Banana Diet Work?

It seems that every other week there is a new fad diet focusing on one food is coming out into the market and supposed to be revolutionizing the weight loss industry. The latest of these fad diets is the morning banana diet that originated in Japan. It's become such a mania you can not even buy a banana in Japan, As you can see dieting is a worldwide phenomenon. This article will explore what exactly the banana diet is and if you can really lose with this formula.

The morning banana diet is a very simple diet plan. The whole concept is you eat anywhere from one to five bananas for breakfast along with room temperature water. Then you can eat whatever you want for lunch, snacks and dinner. You can not eat after 8 p.m and you can not have dessert after dinner. Exercise is said to be done only if you want to.

Can just eating bananas for breakfast and anything you want for lunch and dinner really work? While bananas are a very good food to eat when you are trying to slim down so are almost almost all other fruits. Almost every diet plan calls for eating fruits. Fruits as a whole are very good because they have fiber and water which makes you feel fuller and therefore suppressing your appetite. As you might suspect there are no magical weight loss properties in bananas.

It has been proven time and time again that fad diets do not work. A diet that calls for eating anything you want for lunch and dinner without any exercise simply does not work. And if you are not eating healthy foods you are not going to be very healthy.

Eating breakfast is very important to any diet plan. A banana is an option but not the only option. Low fat yogurt or egg whites is also a good option that will give you more nutrients.

If you are starting a diet plan you want to eat foods high in fiber and water content. These foods will make you feel full without having a lot of calories. If you combine this with exercise such as cardio for 30-60 minutes a day you will start to see the fat melting away.

In conclusion fad diets such as the morning banana diet sometimes result in weight loss but is usually followed by weight gain. Quite often to a heavier then you were before. Healthy eating and exercise is the only true way to lose weight. You must burn more calories then you consume. That is the simple formula.

Islands there are full of tropical products. Coffee, pepper, spice plants, coconut, banana and mango can be found everywhere. It is worth mentioning the rare deep-sea fish---tuna. It is said that 70% of the world's tuna production comes from Micronesia, which ranks No. 1 in the world.

The government and people there have done the protection work of ecological environment particularly well. Driving a car on the road around the island is just like walking through the national forest park, which is full of peace and quiet. Tourists can enjoy the picturesque view of vast sea and silver sand. Towering coconut palms, huge breadfruit trees, low yam garden and taro fields are full of natural and original island atmosphere.

Well-dressed Nauruan who became rich due to phosphorus and rich, the Yap people with red lips who chew betel nut, thick and tall Wangchuck people and Guam's indigenous Moro people can be seen in various islands, which makes these islands full of exotic feelings. In Micronesia, women are in favor of fat and are proud of being plump. More surprisingly, on the occasions of new year, marriage and funeral, people there regard live pigs as the best gifts. Therefore, live pigs can be seen everywhere there.

Once tourists go to Micronesia, they should not forget to participate in the local hula dance, which is quite wonderful and romantic. Young men and women wearing the hula skirts sing and dance with passion and vitality by following the music rhythm. I am sure these tourists will be exult at this.

Bakin' Some 'Nana Bread

Recipe: - pre-heat over at 350F. - 3 bananas. mashed. - mix in 2 tbs of olive oil. - 2 cups flour. - 3/4 cup sugar. - 1 tsp salt. - 1 tsp baking soda. - 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts. - 1/2 cup chocolate chips. grease the pan and put in oven. The time really depends on the pan you bake it in. It took mine about 30 minutes to bake but it was in a cast iron pan. If you use a real bread pan, I'd say around 45 minutes to an hour. or just watch her video on it: www.youtube.com
