Lose 10 Pounds In A Week Feeding on Bananas And Milk?
One plan that has been around for quite some time is the cabbage soup diet. The basics of the plan remain the same even though there have been a few refinements as time has passed. This is not in any sense a healthy balanced way to live at all. But it is a short-term way to eat to lose a few pounds in quite a hurry. It is, contrary to what the name suggests, a diet that lets you eat quite a variety of foods and not just cabbage soup. The soup is just part of the plan and serves mostly as a filler and not as the main part of the diet plan. You actually eat just certain foods and only in the order and on certain days as directed.
Here's the eating plan for each of the days for a full week. For the whole time you can eat all the soup you wish to whenever you want to eat it.
To start you eat any fruit you like except for bananas. You may drink unsweetened tea, cranberry juice and water. Bananas do come in the plan in a few days believe it or not...
Then for the second day you take in fresh, raw or cooked vegetables in whatever amounts you like but no fruits at all. Don't eat dry beans, peas and corn either. For dinner you get a baked potato with butter.
Maybe you can see a pattern developing here. This diet works not really because of a magic soup formula, but because of a restriction of calories and fats in particular. The restrictions are somewhat camouflaged by the unlimited amounts of soup, but the restrictions are key and not the soup itself.
Next as the third day menu you get to eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you like but without potato. See the variety of foods to keep it interesting and less boring so it's possible to actually stick with this and not give up? After all it is only for a few days.
Then as sort of a change-up day and an over-the-worst-part day you get the day that makes this plan sometimes called the banana diet. This day makes it clear where that name came from. Today you can put down up to EIGHT bananas plus drink all the skim milk you want!!! Maybe this might not be such a good idea if you have blood sugar problems. In that case, you could repeat one of the other days. Remember the soup too in unlimited amounts, of course.
Then move to the beef and tomatoes day. Consume ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. You can if you choose substitute broiled or baked chicken for the beef. Then drink at least six to eight glasses of water this day.
Then close to finish with the sixth day and it's the eat all the beef and vegetables you want. Continuing with more soup, but leave off the baked potato.
Finally on the last of the 7 days, finish up with brown rice plus unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables. Eat all you want plus the soup. Notice how you sort of ease into the diet and then ease out.
That's how the cabbage soup diet goes and so the wherewithal to lose 10 pounds in a week. Mix in the variety of foods and it's less boring and easier to stick with than some fad diets are. It's only for a few days and could serve a function as just a part of a more sustainable path to long-term weight loss and a healthier lifestyle based on exercise and better eating. That overall change in lifestyle and habits is of course the real key to getting where you want to be.

Bananas Are Not Only Used For Banana Bread - A Walk Through Banana Recipes of the World
If you look across the world you will find many uses of bananas in cooking. There are lots and lots of different recipes containing bananas, different cultures use them in very unique ways. If you think of it you can kind of compare bananas to potatoes when it comes to different ways op preparing them across different cultures.
The first banana recipe that I will give you comes from Pennsylvania and is pretty old. You all know it or have heard of it - it is simply called banana split because the bananas are split in half and served with some ice cream and strawberry and chocolate sauce, and maybe some whipped cream.
In Brazil, you are sure to find a dessert of bananas mashed in with brown sugar, cinnamon or cloves and grated ginger. The mix up is brought to cook slowly over low heat as it thickens. It is left to cool then molded into a roll, sliced and then served.
Next we are moving to the Caribbean. Here they are making a dessert that includes frying the bananas in oil. The cut the bananas in pieces and first dip them in flour then in batter that is mixed with some rum for the flavor. After the bananas are fried they sprinkle them with some sugar and they are ready to be eaten. This recipe is called the banana fritters.
Next country that has some banana recipes to share and is big on bananas is India. They have quite a few recipes that include bananas so lets mention a few of them. I am sure that you have heard of Lassi, a traditional Indian drink. Of course there is a banana version of it that is called Sweet banana lassi and is made out of (no surprise) bananas and yogurt. Then there is a dessert called Panchamrutham that is made out of bananas, spices and honey and plenty of other recipes.
Next we are going into some of the countries that are also known for growing bananas. It is understandable that these countries have plenty of recipes that include bananas. Lets take a look at a few recipes from Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. They use bananas in a wide range of recipes from adding them to salads, using them in curry dishes (this is very common) or adding them to different food including vegetables. Bananas go great with stews and meat.
So far we have eaten bananas raw, cooked and fried, now it is time to drink them. To do this we need to go to East Africa where they use them to brew beer! and if you are still not convinced how useful and widespread bananas are in cooking - of all the meals prepared with bananas only 80% are prepared with the fruit itself, all others use other parts of the banana plant, like leaves for instance.

Who Said Bananas Are Not Good For You?
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.
Bananas: Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fibre, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
A few people have a slight problem with the digestion of bananas, the simple answer, even though it sounds strange, is to sprinkle a little Pepper on the banana before eating, it works wonders.
Anaemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of haemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anaemia
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fibre, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people
suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body; so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!
Temperature Control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
A banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare bananas to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. Maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"
P.S. Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time!

What To Do With Those Overripe Bananas
What to do with those overripe bananas that are too ripe to eat? When your bananas have more black spots then yellow. When the stems look like a ripcord, just about to rip. Why not make Banana Nut Cookies.
This morning as I strolled into the kitchen I noticed the bananas on the kitchen counter were turning black spotted. My first thought was to make banana bread. But then I realized this was a perfect opportunity to create a new cookie recipe.
Throwing caution to the wind I started to create a cookie recipe out of my tried and true banana nut bread recipe. I added a few more ingredients and added to some ingredients and subtracted from some ingredients. Then I began baking. The first batch came out shaped like cookies, but was fluffy like cake. They tasted pretty much like banana nut bread. Not bad, but not what I was trying to create. I then added more butter and sugar to make them a little crisper and sweeter. What makes a good cookie into a great cookie? Chocolate chips. I added a bag of quality chocolate chips. Quality is the key word here; the quality of your chocolate chips can either make or break a good cookie. This batch was good but needed some extra texture. I didn't want to create a cake cookie. I wanted to create a cookie. The next batch I added coconut and oats. Wow, what a difference! The coconut and oats not only added texture, but added crispiness and chewiness too.
What was that old saying? Something like, "when life give you lemons make lemon aid." In other words, when life gives you overripe bananas make banana nut chocolate chip cookies. Any time you have fruit taking the southern route there is always a recipe, let me say a cookie recipe to create.
Cream together:
2-cups butter
1-cup sugar
1-cup packed brown sugar
2-eggs
3-bananas
½-cup sour cream
After the above ingredients are thoroughly mixed together, mix in:
1½-tsp. baking soda
1-tsp. baking powder
½-tsp. salt
4-cups flour
Mix all these ingredients together well. Now I'll give you some options to add, but you will need to add at least some of these ingredients if not all of them. When baking cookies everyone has their individual tastes. It is always advisable to make a new cookie recipe your own. Add things you like and subtract things you don't. Who knows your cookie may turn out better than the original recipe.
1-cup nuts
1-11.5 oz. bag of chocolate chips
1-cup coconut
1-cup of quick oats

Anti-Cancer Wonder Fruit - Bananas
I like to watch tennis matches on TV, especially the grand slam series. Running under the hot sun for hours at high speeds requires a lot of energy and stamina. So during the breaks, players would replenish their bodies with fluids and sometimes bananas.
Why bananas and not other fruits? There are many reasons. Bananas are easy to peel and eat and provide a quick boost of energy. Depending on the type and size of the banana, they typically contain 110 calories, 3 natural sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose), about 6 vitamins, and 11 minerals. It is a good source of potassium and fiber and has no fat and cholesterol.
I love to eat bananas and there are so many ways to prepare and consume it. Bananas can be made into cake, bread, pie, sauce, ketchup, pudding, chips, yogurt, and beer, among many others. You can freeze it, deep-fry it, steam it, squeeze it into juice, split it and serve with ice-cream, slice and put it in a sandwich, or cut it up and mix it in a salad bowl. For me, eating it on its own at 90% ripeness is a super treat.
Bananas have a long list of health benefits, some of which are:
1. Ease Constipation: its high fiber content helps digestive tract and bowel movement
2. Diarrhea: the potassium replaces the lost electrolytes
3. Anemia: the iron helps to replenish the red blood cells
4. Healthy bones: bananas contain a complex sugar compound that nourishes good bacteria in the colon. This good bacteria produce enzymes which help digestion and in the process increase the absorption of calcium
5. Prevent High blood pressure: its high potassium and low sodium ratio helps prevent high blood pressure and stroke
6. Help reduce Ulcers: bananas stimulate the cells on the internal stomach lining to produce a thick mucus protecting it against acid; it contain enzyme inhibitors that get rid of bacteria in the stomach that cause ulcers
7. Reduce Depression: bananas contain an amino acid that can be converted to serotonin and help reduce depression
8. Relief Stress: when a person is highly stressed, his potassium level will deplete quickly. Eating bananas, which is high in potassium, will restore the level and provide a good balance in the body
9. Reduce Heartburn: bananas help to prevent the build-up of acids in the stomach and provide relief for people suffering from heartburn
10. Reduce Morning Sickness: bananas help keep the blood-sugar level up and reduce morning sickness
11. Help to quit Smoking: bananas contain vitamins B6, B12, potassium and magnesium that can help a person trying to quit smoking to recover from nicotine withdrawal
12. Anti-Cancer quality: a fully ripe banana produces a substance known as TNF that can fight abnormal cells. Dark spots will appear on the skin of the banana as it ripens. The more dark spots it has the better its fighting ability and anti-cancer quality.
In researches conducted in Japan using animals, the health benefits of various fruits were compared. The fruits include banana, apple, pear, pineapple, persimmon, grape, and water melon. Banana came out top. Eating bananas produced the anti-cancer substance TNF, increased the white blood cells count, and improved the immunity of the body.
So eat a banana a day and keep the doctors away. Care to join me?

IBS Treatment - What Have Bananas And Apples Got To Do With IBS?
When someone talks about bananas, one thing comes to mind - energy food. The reason for this is because we often see the tri-athletes gorging on this before and during their race events.
Well, it is a known fact that it contains three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose - combined with fiber. The sugars give us the instant and sustainable energy. Research has shown that just two bananas can sustain one for a vigorous 90-minute workout. But for an IBS sufferer, it is the insoluble fiber that we are interested in. The abundance of insoluble fibers helps in relieving constipation without the need for laxatives. So keep a banana or two in your daily diet. One banana has 16% of the fiber, 15% of the vitamin C, and 11% of the potassium we need every day for good health. Bananas are unique because it helps in both IBS constipation and diarrhea. A few (no more than 2) large bananas a day provide the fiber to promote bowel movement. Eating more bananas a day can help stop diarrhea. Bananas have other benefits as well. For anemic patients, bananas are high in iron, which helps in the production of hemoglobin - the foundation of blood. This is especially important to women when they have their menses.
For high blood pressure and stroke sufferers, bananas are high in potassium but low in salt. Research, has shown that potassium reduces blood pressure. In one research, keeping bananas as a regular diet can reduce the risk of death by stroke by as much as 40%.
For heart burn patients, bananas have antacid properties. Gulping down a couple of bananas provide relief in heart burn patients.
For ulcer sufferers, bananas coat the lining of the intestines, thus providing relief for over-active ulcers. A banana's antacid properties will reduce acidity in the stomach as well.
For mosquito bites and warts. Forget your creams, just use the banana skin and rub some on the mosquito bite. It not only provides irritation relief, but reduces inflammation as well. Keep the inside of the banana skin on the wart by using plaster and see the wart go away. Tips: Do not take bananas late at night. When you take bananas, also take lots of water after that if you want to prevent constipation. Apples are also unique because they are both beneficial in the treatment of constipation and diarrhea. Uncooked apples are good for constipation. On the other hand, baked apples are good for diarrhea as the cooking process softens the cellulose and provides bulk to stools. For the best IBS treatment, apples should be peeled. The sugars in apples are harder for the body to digest. And what the body can't break down, it pushes out. So apples are a natural laxative. Personally, I find combining bananas and apples into a drink is even more effective as a constipation relief, so here is a recipe for one IBS constipation relief drink. Banana, Apple Lassi (Yogurt drink) Combine two fruits with natural laxatives and digestion booster properties, and you get one of the best IBS constipation treatments. Yoghurt builds 'good' bacteria in the gut. (Caution: if you are lactose intolerant, do not take yoghurt made from milk - then use soya yoghurt)
Recipe
1. Use natural unflavored yoghurt (about 3 tablespoons). if you are milk intolerant, skip this and just use water or soya yoghurt.
2. 2 ripe, peeled bananas. Use 1 banana if you want to reduce the banana fragrance in the drink.
3. Peal an apple and cut into pieces and put in a juicer. Use the apple juice.
4. Add about 1 cup of cold water in a blender. Pour in the yoghurt. Pour in the apple juice and add in the bananas
5. Give the blender a spin so that they are mixed up.
6. Drink immediately. To keep, refrigerate. Drink this on a daily basis either early in the morning. Not only will this drink give you a boost the entire day but it keeps the gut well and bowel movement consistent.

Benefits of Eating Bananas
Who would have thought that the horned shaped, delicious fruit we know as a banana, is one of mother natures most helpful, energizing, and healing fruits that she ever created! Bananas are miracle fruits, due to the sheer amount of diseases and conditions they help fight and prevent, and two bananas a day should be included in your diet if you want to reap the rewards of such a powerful fruit.
Bananas contain three naturally occurring sugars, which we know as fructose, glucose, and sucrose. Couple that with the fiber content in a banana, it's no wonder that professional athletes and regular every day people eat bananas pre-workout, post workout, and everywhere in between. It's also a great snack for the kids before, during, and after school.
But as we talked about earlier, the banana has an array of disease and condition fighting powerhouse nutrients - so here are some of the benefits of eating bananas for your health:
Great for blood pressure - Since the banana is high in potassium and low in sodium, it makes a perfect natural defense for high blood pressure. As a matter of fact, the USDA recently allowed the banana industry to make claims of the fruits ability to prevent high blood pressure and even stroke symptoms.
Food For Thought - There have been multiple education based studies that show eating bananas before school, at lunch, breaks, and at lunch, improve test scores overall performance by measurable results. The potassium blast helps to naturally energize the brain and makes students more alert and receptive.
Backed Up? As you may or may not know, bananas are jam packed with colon cleansing fiber. This helps promote and restore regular bowel movements, and is a safe, natural alternative to laxatives. Eating a banana a day makes for good toilet time.
Got The Blues? Many studies and research have proven that eating bananas can take the edge off depression, due to the fact that they contain Tryptophan, which is a type of protein that gets converted in the body to Serotonin. Serotonin helps you relax, makes you feel happy, and generally improves your mood.
Got the Burn? Since they have a naturally occurring antacid effect in the body, bananas help get rid of heart burn after eating your favorite (but miserable) foods. So after you chow down that pepperoni pizza, make sure to have a banana for dessert to keep your stomach a happy camper.
That Time Of The Month? Get rid of the Midol, and turn to Mother Nature's solution for PMS - the banana! Bananas contain vitamin B6 which helps regulate blood sugar levels, which, in turn, can have a positive effect on your mood.
Kick The Habit - Bananas have been shown to help smokers kick their habits because the vitamin B12 and B6 they contain, along with the potassium and magnesium, helps in recovering from the effects of nicotine withdrawal (which can be a very unpleasant feeling - trust me, I know!)
So remember when someone says, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", you can politely add in that a banana a day has about four times the effect! Bananas are definitely one of nature's super fruits, and you should be eating them regularly. Your mind, heart, and colon will thank you.

Bananas Burst With Healthy Benefits
While bananas are the most popular fruit on the planet - outdistancing both apples and oranges - few people know enough about this variety of plantain to make full use of its extraordinary qualities. This article explores how you can get the most from this deliciously healthful fruit.
Great food value in a small package. One medium banana contains a good dose of fiber, potassium, vitamins C and B6 and a whole lot more...
Weighing in at about 100 calories for a medium bananas - you get a ton of value for that smidgen of energy. Most of the calories come from its three sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose. Studies show two bananas provides enough energy to fuel a full 90 minutes of heavy activity - making bananas the favorite snack of top athletes. Even better, bananas are digested in such a way as to release that energy slowly so there's no "rush and crash" effect. But that's not all...
Feeling bad? Can't sleep? Eat a banana. Bananas pack in all eight essential amino acids our bodies need. One of these, tryptophan, helps you sleep and also helps combat depression. Your body uses tryptophan to produce serotonin. Serotonin helps you relax and improves your mood. Serotonin is a natural "happy pill". And that's just the beginning.
Bananas can be used to ease a number of ills including Morning Sickness, Heartburn, PMS, Mosquito bites and even hangovers. They help control blood sugar levels (low blood sugar can cause morning sickness) so it's an ideal food to keep handy for diabetics.
Got heartburn? Bananas act like an antacid to smooth out upset stomachs.
Nervous? The B vitamins in bananas have a calming effect.
Bitten by insects? Eat a banana and then rub the inside of the skin on the bite. It's prized for reducing the irritation and swelling. Some say if you tape a piece of banana skin to a wart it will die.
Bothered by High Blood Pressure? Low in sodium and a good source of potassium, bananas are part of the healthy diet necessary to keep hypertension in check. Research also suggests bananas can lessen the risk of stroke.
Constipated? The fiber in bananas can help. Coupled with bran flakes, many folks can move to a regular schedule in no time.
Bananas as brain food? Yep. At least one informal study in England suggests eating bananas can improve exam performance. Did the bananas calm exam takers? Or maybe they supplied the energy needed to concentrate. some point the to potassium, saying it helped keep students focused. While more study is needed, a little banana power can't hurt.
Suffering from a hangover? Forget the "hair of the dog" Eat a banana and drink plenty of water. Since dehydration and potassium depletion are the primary causes of your headache an nausea, 16 oz. of water and a medium banana will go a long way to restoring your body to normal. For best results have your banana and water before going to bed.
For overall healthy eating it's hard to beat the banana as a staple for your diet. They keep well for reasonable periods of time, are very portable and comes in it's own natural disposable package. Few foods carry all the nutrients found in a single banana that help you stay healthy in so many ways. So go ahead - have a banana.

Chiquita - Bananas Over Terrorism
Many people benefit from the production lines of Chiquita- one of the leading producers and sellers of bananas. The company has just recently undergone some extreme controversy- funding terrorism with their own pockets. Who would have thought that a banana could carry so much weight, power and fear. And the protection racket is still alive and kicking.
The company was reported to have paid Columbian terrorists 'protection' money. The fine so far has been $25 million for the company, who makes about twice that each business period. The terrorist group known as AUC was paid $1.7 million in exchange for 'protection', although it could only be confirmed that they did indeed pay the terrorists between the years 2001 and 2004. It is currently unknown as to whether or not the company is still paying the terrorist group AUC, further investigations are being undertaken to find out more information. Nobody knows even if the investigations themselves are corrupted - such is the state of affairs in powerful circles.
The company has been oddly cooperative - odd simply because of the potential consequences for "grassers.". It claimed the AUC made the threats against workers, and paid the money for the protection of its employees only. This isn't unheard of, as many businesses in the area will get such threats from groups like the AUC.
Not surprisingly, the Chiquita stock fell $.14 at the New York Stock Exchange, the day of the news release. It is expected to continue its downfall until an ultimate decision is made for the company.

Bananas in Performance
Our feelings are far too paradoxical when it comes to bananas. We think bananas are an important food item; at the same time, we enjoy banana jokes. Someone falling over on a banana skin and getting up is slapstick hilarious. We say someone has gone bananas when he doesn't make sense. Joke books and websites teem with banana jokes. For instance:
Observe bananas. They are traffic lights reversed. For bananas green is, "Be patient and wait." Yellow is the right of way. Red is, "Beware, this banana is an alien."
Most banana jokes, however, are not G-rated.
The odd thing is, we also take bananas very seriously, even while we joke about them. Someone as formal as Mr. Greenspan warned the bankers, on September 26, 2005, by saying, "Don't slip on the banana." This was while he mentioned Adam Smith and the free markets.
In computing and website terminology, "banana problem" is the term about badly written and inaccurate conditions or an uncertain situation related to the termination of a program.
During the last decade of the 20th century, bananas were taken so solemnly that Europe versus United States and Banana Republics trade wars cropped up. "Banana Republics" are the banana raising countries in Central America.
Europeans called the banana "Indian Fig" during the fifteenth century and the first shipment of bananas to the United States during the colonial period was at the end of the seventeenth century. Not knowing what to do with a banana, the colonists experimented cooking it with all kinds of meat.
In Hawaii, about a couple of centuries ago, bananas were forbidden to women. If a woman ate a banana, she could be sentenced to death.
There are Banana Islands off the western coast of Africa, because--contrary to the belief that banana cultivation only belongs to tropical and subtropical countries in America--most of the world's banana crops are raised in Africa.
Bananas come in many colors. "The Ice-Cream Banana" is blue, but turns yellow when it ripens. Maroon or purple bananas are called "Red Bananas" and the flesh inside their skin is pink.
A banana plant is not a tree, although we call it that. It is a monster herb with huge, elongated, flat leaves and orange or purple colored flowers. Inside the trunk of a banana plant is a white tube that is edible when cooked.
We place bananas all around us as entertainment, even in songs. Remember the calypso "Banana Boat Song" and Woody Allen's movie, "Bananas"?
In our house, we buy so many bananas and so often that our grocer probably thinks we are hiding monkeys as pets. An almost daily statement in our kitchen is: "No breakfast (or lunch) for me. I'm in a hurry. I'll just grab a banana."
A banana finds its true sweet flavor when it ripens and the skin turns brownish. Aside from eating the banana as fruit, we make deserts from it such as banana splits, banana pudding, and banana bread.
What we call banana bread is not bread but a not-too-sweet cake, best when served with the afternoon tea. Here is what I put inside my banana bread:
about two and a half cups of flour (whole wheat and unbleached white mixed)
a pinch of salt
baking powder
2 eggs or their equivalent of Egg-Beaters
about ¾ cup of light brown sugar
less than half a cup of corn oil (butter would taste better if you aren't worried about cholesterol)
three or four mashed bananas, when the fruit is brownish on the outside and softened inside the peel
chopped walnuts, coconuts, or almonds added as variety to taste
Enjoy your bananas. They play an important part in our lives.

Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates the body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of high-potassium banana snacks.
The report concluded that to avoid food cravings induced by pressure we need to control blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate bananas food frequently. Warts can be stressful wherever they appear, especially for those conscious of their appearance, their health and those they come in contact with. Many swear by the healing properties experienced when the inside section of banana skin is placed over the wart, and fastened there by surgical tape or a plaster.
Never underestimate the power of nature harnessed inside a banana fruit. The doctor's advice is to keep away - by eating an apple a day. But the humble banana has four times an apple's protein, twice its carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium. It is simply one of the best value foods around.
This could be the opportunity to give doctors some well earned time off. After all, surely avoidance of ailments is better than cure. No wonder there are so many maxims associated with monkey guile, cuteness, agility and energy. ©
